JAN KARSKI
Jan Karski is a legendary courier of the Polish Underground State during World War II, he was an emissary between occupied Poland and the free world. He was the first to inform the world about the Jewish Holocaust in the General Government. Twice he made successful missions from occupied Poland to the Polish Government in Exile, relaying documents and news. With great determination, he tried to reach as many politicians and the widest possible public with his harrowing account. To this end, he also voluntarily entered the Warsaw Ghetto, allowed himself to be captured and deported to the Treblinka camp, from where he escaped.
He is described as “the man who tried to stop the Holocaust.” He died in 2000.
