The foundation act is embedded into the monument to the Presidents of Great Warsaw
On 4 October, 2021 the ceremony of laying the foundation act for the construction of the monument to the Presidents of Great Warsaw was held, which is to commemorate the figures of Stefan Starzyński and Julian Spitosław Kulski – the presidents of the capital and at the same time two well-deserved, eminent people, who greatly contributed to its development.
During the ceremony Malgorzata Bogusz, President of the Kulski Foundation for Polish-American relations, Piotr Mazurek, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, as well as Michal Krasucki, Director of Warsaw Monument Conservator’s Office delivered their speeches.
The Monument to the Presidents of Great Warsaw has been created by the initiative of Julian Eugeniusz Kulski (1929-2021) – Warsaw insurgent, colonel of the Polish Army, professor of architecture, founder of the Kulski Foundation for Polish-American relations, Knight of the Commander?s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta and at the same time the son of Julian Spitosław Kulski.
The sculpture of the Presidents of Great Warsaw – Stefan Starzyński and Julian Spitosław Kulski, the builders of the pre-war capital and heroic defenders of the city in September 1939, was designed and made by the artist Paweł Pietrusiński, who was influenced by a historical photo from 1937, taken during a walk of both Presidents along the Vistula boulevards. The monument was created thanks to the inspiration of the art historian and varsavianist Kazimierz Sztarbałło.
Among the partners for the construction of the monument to the Presidents of Great Warsaw were: the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, the Institute of National Remembrance(IPN), Warsaw Municipality, Warsaw City Development Board (SZRM), DWF Poland Jamka LP, Warsaw Municipal Water and Sewage Enterprise (MPWiK), PBO Śląsk, PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny, PZU Inc, Sport Totalizator, Vision Group, ARP Foundation, PKP Group Foundation and Orlen Foundation.
The official ceremony of unveiling of the monument to the Presidents of Great Warsaw is planned for this Saturday (October 9) at 13:00. The event will take place on the Vistula boulevards (in the vicinity of the Kubicki Arcades, stop Podzamcze 01).
